Baby, baby, I'm taken with the notion
To love you with the sweetest of devotion
Baby, baby, my tender love will flow from
The bluest sky to the deepest ocean
Stop for a minute
Baby, I'm so glad you're mine, yeah
You're mine
Baby, baby, the stars are shinin' for you
And just like me, I'm sure that they adore you
Baby, baby, go walkin' through the forest
The birds above a-singin' you a chorus
Stop for a minute
Baby, they're so glad you're mine, oh yeah
And ever since the day
You put my heart in motion
Baby, I realize that there's
Just no getting over you
Baby, baby, in any kind of weather
I'm here for you always and forever
Baby, baby, no muscle man could sever
My love for you is true and it will never
Stop for a minute
Baby, I'm so glad you're mine
And ever since the day
You put my heart in motion
Baby, I realize
There's no getting over you
And ever since the day
You put my heart in motion
Baby, I realize that there's
Just no getting over you
Over you
Baby, baby, always and forever
Baby, I'm so glad
Here for you, baby
I'm so glad you're mine
Baby, I'm so glad
When I think about you, it makes me smile
Baby, baby, be mine
Baby, I'm so glad
Don't stop giving love
Don't stop, no
Baby, I'm so glad that you're mine
Baby, I'm so glad
Here we have the lyrics of Amy Grants controversial smash hit "Baby, Baby." Before the song came out Amy Grant was known as a Christian artist. One who wrote worship songs about Christ. And when the song debuted it came as a shock to the Christian radio stations. They were boycotting the song because it was not the typical stuff they were acustomed to. Now look at that time there are some reasons that I agree with it, and other reasons i don't.
Christian music had a certain type of standard in the 90's. And the song didn't really fit those, and that's understandable. But to boycott the song is wrong. It's a song about love. Christians do happen to fall in love and get married. Or maybe its a different type of love song for God. These critics believed she was going mainstream so she could make money. The only thing she was trying to do was make "family friendly" music that did not have any cursing, or references of sex. She wanted good music on the radio. If that is something to be persecuted for..then so be it.
Just my thoughts on things happening in my life. Read if you want to. Enjoy the ride with me if you will

o d-lew, im not sure what to cover on your sweet post.
Let me first off agree with you on the stupidity of condemning someone who makes art of any kind, especially when it could easily be argued that evangelism could be in the mix. Bands like Switchfoot, P.O.D., the Fray, Jars of Clay... have made the statement that they are respectable enough musically that they can succeed outside of Christian circles, so why not play to an audience who hasn't heard the Gospel while maintaing the focus of playing for the King? It is awsome to know people are being reached in a crazy media-consuming world with a Christian message that doesn't involve all of the bad stuff we so often hear.
On another note, I must address Amy Grant personally. Granted, I was younger in the days when she had her huge hits that went multi bronze, manganeese, and platinum, but I do know a little about her career as it went along.
The story goes that she was doing her music thing, making hits and what not, and married to Gary Chapmen. Not so long later, they split up. I won't even try to understand what went on between them, their big time stars, sha da da.... Nevertheless, they divorced. Had Amy Grant been in the role of say Brittany Spears, or Christian Agu(however its spelled), I wouldn't give a rip beyond this point. However, as a Christian role model, I feel at this point she should have stepped down. Breaking a marrige, as in ministry, prevents you from being an example to others. Not only that, but she remarried another man who had also divorced his wife. The two make a great "we divorced but we're cool now" couple. Once again, stay out of the limelight and you do what you want. But her continued role in CCM is simply a mistake. What's more is she doesn't feel she did anything wrong. Need I go on-
I dont know about that interpretation hammer. The problem is that we are not in a place to judge Amy Grant on a personal basis. I find it disturbing when a person's personal life comes under fire from people who are purley spectators and have only the information provided by the media.
Also, i would argue that all the good Amy Grant did in CCM was part of her using the gifts God had given her. Also, i would argue that if that was the case then she has just as much of a right to continue to God's gift of vocal talent and music to continue to produce albums mainstream with christian inspired lyrics or "CHRISTIAN"
I don't have a problem so much with what she did, I could accept lots of things an artist might mess up in- drugs, alcohol, or relationships as we saw with Amy. I don't doubt she did a sweet job of entering the mainstream world, and props to her for that. The only thing that bothers me about her is that she was perfectly fine with divorcing her husband and marring her "soulmate" she met later. In this regard, she wouldn't have even had to do it herself for me not to support her view on marrige.
