Compare the News

so i was watching sportscenter, the news epicenter for all sports fans, to see what was happening in the world of sports when stuart scott says the browns have signed jamal lewis to a contract. now this was going on at the time where many other free agents were being signed also, so it just came in a huge segement with the other big stars going to new teams. to me this is a monumental event. i turned the channel to cbs around the time the local news was on and they were a little bit more excited about the signing, and so where the papers around town. it was tough to see the writers excitement though because it wasn't in my face at the time that it happened it was a day later. but the paper did have more inside information that sportscenter and the news did not have which made it a plus anyway. i sometimes wish sportscenter and the news would wait until they had all of the informaion instead of speculating or guessing what the next move will be. sometimes they may get it right, but most of the time they are way off and that makes me not trust them as much with the information that i get from them....

David, I agree. I think that a lot of national news networks ( not just sports) give information on rumors or "a source" too quickly when they don't have enough of the information to make what they say truly valid. Though it may be irresponsible I think they do it for two reasons:
1. They want to be the first ones to reveal the information. They don't want a bunch of other news networks to reveal the information before they do because they want people to go to their station first before anybody else.
2. I think that maybe they want to get people talking about rumors. When people hear information on rumors or "a source" that they're interested in, all of the sudden their using other forms of media (ex: their website) to find out the truth.
